Kultermann sites Seidlitz among those Gründerzeit museum directors, along with Wilhelm von Bode, (q.v.), Alfred Lichtwark, (q.v.), Justus Brinckmann, q.v.) and Karl Woermann, (q.v.), as responsible for the formation of art history by virtue of their scholarship and interest in museum training.
